The Final Post

This is the final post on The Unofficial Photoshop Weblog. It's also a new beginning for Photoshop Online, which I'll be hosting as an independent video podcast at http://photoshoponline.tv . Join me there in a couple of days (once the little elves get the domain names resolved) for a feast of Photoshop tips and techniques. In the meantime, you can watch as I get the site up and running at its temporary URL http://kabili.libsyn.com. The RSS feed for Photoshop Online will be http://kabili.libsyn.com/rss .

And don't forget to catch David and my posts on all things Apple over at our sister site The Unofficial Apple Weblog.

NAPP Lightroom training updated for Windows

Now that you Windows users have heard that there's a beta of Adobe Lightroom for you (a free download from Adobe), you're probably hungry for some Windows specific training. As usual, NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) is right on it. They've updated their Lightroom training page with some new videos that show the Windows version of Lightroom, including Matt Kloskowski's Intro to the Develop Module, Secrets of the Tone Curve, and Magic of Split-Toning. Mac users will benefit from these videos too, because Lightroom's settings are similar across the platforms.

And if you want to see what other users are saying about the Windows beta or post your own impressions, join in on Adobe's Lightroom Beta Windows discussion board.

Scott Kelby offers online Photoshop training for digital photographers

If you're a digital photographer who wants to learn Photoshop from the master, check out a new online training course, Photoshop for Digital Photographers with Scott Kelby of Photoshop TV fame. This 21-day course offers a different 5 minute training video each day. Scott will take you through a digital photographer's workflow from beginning to end. He provides the lesson, a downloadable file you can use to follow along with the instruction, a PDF that outlines each lesson, and access to an online forum on which you can converse with other students in the course. You can replay any of the videos at no extra charge for 60 days. The course covers Photoshop's most powerful features for digital photographers, including Camera Raw adjustments, color to black and white conversions , color correction using curves, sharpening, and more.

I haven't listened to these tutorials, but I have seen Scott teach. I can tell you that he is a straight shooting instructor who understands what his audience needs to know and gets right to the heart of the matter. At the $69.99 price point ($39.99 for members of National Association of Photoshop Professionals) this sounds like a good buy for digital photographers who want to spend a minimum amount of time learning to improve their photographs in Photoshop.

Photoshop Ep. 21 released with a play-along tutorial

Episode 21 of Photoshop TV has landed, and in addition to the usual roundup of handy tips and tricks is a special guest: Eddie Tap, who demonstrates some new greyscale conversion techniques. Further, if you'd like to play along with a restoration tutorial from Scott, you can grab a copy of the image he uses from their site. Neat.

iPod packaging redesign - by Microsoft

No, the Redmond software giant didn't actually redesign the iPod's packaging, but someone used some pretty funny (and accurate) packaging parody work and put together a darn funny video of what it would look like if they did.

As long as you have Flash enabled, you should be able to click the play button on the image above and watch the video right here at TUPW. As a backup, you can also check out the video at YouTube.

Thanks to Photoshop TV for the mention

This post can also be found under the title: "I'm really behind on my Photoshop TV episodes."

While my podcast listening habits are certainly not newsworthy, I figured I could make a slight exception this time around since I finally caught up with the January 30th episode of Photoshop TV, in which the venerable hosts Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski give a shout out to TUPW. Yep, that's right: celebrity has graced our humble work with kind words.

So thanks guys! Keep up the great work and we'll be sure to keep watching. Even if I personally might occasionally take a little while to catch up with things.

Free video tutorials from Lombergar.com

Yesterday I found an interactive DVD CS2 training series that sells for $99, so how about going to the other end of the gammut with some free online training videos? Lombergar.com, which I admittedly have never heard of before, offers over twenty free online video tutorials (QuickTime required) covering a wide range of topics from creating a "believable rain" effect, photomerging and matching color, text on a path, lense blur, creating sketch effects and more. They look like interesting tutorials, some of which I haven't seen covered in video form anywhere else.

Inside Adobe Photoshop CS2, project-based interactive DVD training

A new addition has been added to the Digital Media Training Series in the form of Inside Adobe Photoshop CS2: Project Based Training. This particular series focuses on the new features in CS2, in particular Bridge, Vanishing Point, Smart Objects, Lens Correction, Warp, and Video Actions. The video and animation aspects of the DVD-based training are particularly interesting to me, as inputting/outputting video and creating still images for video are covered.

The 6-hour training DVD will run you $99 and is shipping now. Check out their site for full training detains, including a table of contents.
